DUI task forces or special driving under the influence trained officers are police officers that have specialized training in DUI detection and deterrence. Every officer who goes through a police academy or the Georgia State Patrol training academy has some training in DUI investigation. But that training is just part of general officer training. The Nighthawks are special DUI enforcement officers who patrol the roads of Metro Atlanta including Cobb, DeKalb, Clayton, Douglas, and Gwinnett Counties. They are extremely well trained in DUI law, and are certified to operate breath testing machines. As part of the Nighthawks division, their number one responsibility while on patrol is to remove impaired drivers from the road.

Other municipalities, such as Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Smyrna, Marietta, Alpharetta, Roswell, Doraville, and Brookhaven have their own specially trained DUI officers. They will often be called to the scene of a traffic stop if the stopping officer believes you are impaired by drugs or alcohol.
