The Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court is located at 115 Stone Mountain Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30046. The Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court handles traffic citations, misdemeanor marijuana charges, DUI offenses, and Gwinnett county ordinance violations that originate in Gwinnett County and are investigated by the Gwinnett County Police Department. Gwinnett County also has a number of municipalities, like Norcross, Lilburn, Duluth, Suwanee, and Snellville, but those cities have their own police department and courthouses to handle their own cases. Only cases where the officer is a Gwinnett County police officer will be handled in Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court.

The Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court typically has court in the morning at 8:30am and in the afternoon at 1:00pm. While most cases are handled in the morning, you might be scheduled for afternoon court. Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they may be staggering court times even more, and you may be asked to attend court at a different time. There are four Judges who oversee cases in the Recorder’s Court and the County Solicitor’s office oversees the prosecution of violations. There are no jury trials in the Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court so if your case is eligible for a jury trial, you need to send your case from the Recorder’s Court to the State Court by entering a plea of not guilty and requesting a jury trial.

In my experience it is always best to ask to speak with a solicitor regarding your case before resolution unless you know it will not go on your criminal history or driving record. An experience attorney in traffic violations and misdemeanor offenses can let you know if your specific charge will be reported on your driving history or go on your Georgia criminal history.
