Minor in Posession, DUI, Marijuana, and Traffic Citations in the Kennesaw Municipal Court
Kennesaw Georgia is home to Kennesaw State University and its over 41,000 students. Kennesaw State University is the second largest university in the State of Georgia. The entire population of Kennesaw is only 34,000 people so the University and its students make up a big percentage of the people coming in and out of the city. The city of Kennesaw has two police departments, the Kennesaw Police Department and the Kennesaw State University Police Department that enforce the laws of the city and the state of Georgia. Because Kennesaw has so many students, minor in possession of alcohol, marijuana, and shoplifting charges occur very frequently in the city. In order to enforce these laws as well as the traffic laws of the city, Kennesaw has its own municipal court. The Kennesaw Municipal Court handles all traffic citations, dui arrests, misdemeanor marijuana violations, theft by shoplifting charges, minor in possession of alcohol charges and other city ordinances and state law violations in which the court has jurisdiction.
The Kennesaw Municipal Court is open 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday to pay citations. The Judge in the Kennesaw Municipal Court is Luke Mayes and the solicitor who handles prosecution for the city is Randall Bentley. Some tickets can be paid without appearing in court, however it is possible that appearing in court and speaking to the Kennesaw solicitor may improve the fine, reduce points, or modify the charge altogether. An experienced Kennesaw Municipal Court attorney may be able to appear in court on your behalf and work out your case without you having to appear. Even traffic violations are technically misdemeanor charges in the State of Georgia, so speaking with an attorney to protect your rights is always recommended.
