Pre-Trial Intervention for Traffic (PTIT) Cases in the City of Atlanta Municipal Court

The City of Atlanta Municipal Court is located 3/4 of a mile South of the heart of downtown Atlanta, the ATL sign in Woodruff Park.

The City of Atlanta Solicitor’s Office located at 150 Garnett Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30303 has a pre-trial intervention program for certain traffic offenders within the city limits of Atlanta. This program, also known as the PTIT program Atlanta dismisses your traffic citation like it never happened when you successfully complete the program. The Atlanta PTIT program involves signing a participation agreement, paying a participation fee that is usually less than any fine associated with the citation, taking a driver improvement course in some but not all situations, and providing proof that insurance has accepted liability if your citation is a result of city of Atlanta car accident.

The cases that are usually eligible for the city of Atlanta traffic ticket PTIT program are non accident moving violations like failure to yield, failure to stop at a stop sign, HOV violations, speeding tickets 33mph and under, and some car accident citations when the accident did not result in injuries. There are also non moving violations like expired tag or expired license and equipment violations that are eligible for the program. You are only eligible to resolve one case every twelve months through PTIT. If you have completed the PTIT program in the last twelve months, you will not be eligible. If you are eligible you will likely receive a postcard in the mail from the Atlanta Municipal Court and the City of Atlanta Solicitor’s office discussing your eligibility. There won’t be any requirements listed on the post card, but they will give you instructions prior to your Atlanta Municipal Court court date. If you receive that card in the mail you can make the decision to enter the program prior to your court date, or you can appear in court on your scheduled day to talk about your case. When you receive that PTIT postcard in the mail, it may be helpful to discuss your case with an Atlanta traffic ticket attorney, they will be able to give you information regarding the PTIT program and if you would like representation, take care of everything on your behalf and walk you through the instructions to handle your Atlanta traffic case through the PTIT program.

Just because you are eligible for PTIT, does not not mean you have to resolve your case in that manner. Every city of Atlanta traffic ticket has the option for a bench trial in the City of Atlanta Municipal Court. Most traffic violations have the option for a jury trial as well, which would occur in Fulton, DeKalb, or Clayton County State Court depending on where within the City of Atlanta the citation was issued. Some charges like DUI, serious traffic accidents, very high speeding tickets, hit and run, fleeing and eluding, suspended license and no insurance tickets will not be eligible for the PTIT program. An experienced Atlanta traffic attorney can walk you through the steps of the PTIT program, determine whether it is a good route for you and your case, and even help you with representation if that is what you choose. An Atlanta traffic attorney can appear on your behalf in a lot of circumstances. They can get you in and out of the courthouse quickly, and make sure you are getting the best possible outcome on your Atlanta traffic ticket.
